Umi Copper is a singer-songwriter and producer whose raw and emotive blend of soul, experimental R&B, and folk music isn’t easily categorized. Copper being first generation born in the U.S. and raised in Long Beach CA by his immigrant Togolese mother. Copper was immediately introduced to 2 walks of life growing up with influences of West African highlife music and afro-beat music like Fela Kuti all the way to other acts like Nina Simone and Thom Yorke, so as an artist, that birthed his more visceral but melodic delivery. Copper has been experimenting and crafting his sound for the last 7 years working as a anonymous understudy for some of LA’s most innovative soul producers. Copper, now 24 years old, is debuting his most recent works that breathe of authentic progressive structures and genre bending textures.
