Deer Tick to Auction Bus on eBay to Raise Funds for Pakistan Flood Victims

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Deer Tick and their tour bus “The Flagship” in 2009

Providence, RI rock band Deer Tick has announced that it will auction off the tour bus it used on all of its 2009 US tours, nicknamed “The Flagship” (from the band’s 2009 album Born on Flag Day). A generous portion of proceeds will go to benefit Pakistan flood victims through a partnership with Oxfam America.

According to the Government of Pakistan, some 17 million have been affected by the flooding. U.N. undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs, John Holmes, has called the floods “unprecedented”.

“The situation over there is so critical, but it seems that very few people are aware of it,” said Deer Tick frontman John McCauley. “Maybe it’s the stigma with that part of the world, I’m not sure. Either way, we feel really strongly that people should be more aware of the situation and hopefully we can help with that.”

The auction will be held on eBay.com and will last for 3 weeks. The eBay page for the auction can be viewed here: http://tiny.cc/deertickbusauction

“At Oxfam America, we are lucky to have some of the world’s most amazing artists support our mission and campaigns,” said Bob Ferguson, Senior Advisor of Music Outreach for Oxfam, “We’re very pleased that Deer Tick has joined that group in advocating on behalf of our flood relief and recovery efforts in Pakistan.”

Deer Tick will also be accepting donations to Oxfam at its merch booth each night during their upcoming US tour (dates below).

Toro Y Moi announces tour with Nosaj Thing & Jogger, does Daytrotter, plus new 12″ from side project Les Sins

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Chaz Bundick AKA Toro Y Moi AKA Les Sins

Toro Y Moi: “DAYTROTTER SESSION”

STREAM: Les Sins - “Lina”

STREAM: Les Sins -”Youth Gone”

Toro Y Moi has announced a Fall tour with LA’s Nosaj Thing & Jogger, in addition to a few shows on their own and an appearance at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Festival in November. In addition to Toro Y Moi, Chaz Bundick has a few other aliases he’s been recording under for some time, including Les Sins. Carpark has just unveiled plans to release the first Les Sins 12″ on Nov. 9th.

About Les Sins:
Les Sins is the dance alter ego of Toro Y Moi (a.k.a. Chaz Bundick). The two tracks on this twelve inch represent the four on the floor side of Chaz’s sound. Recorded in the spring of 2009 in Chaz’s home studio in Columbia, South Carolina, “Lina” and “Youth Gone” are sure to become worldwide club anthems in some totally cool alternate universe.

Toro Y Moi Bio:
Toro Y Moi is 23 year old Columbia, South Carolina native and resident Chaz Bundick. After earning a BFA in Graphic Design at The University of South Carolina, Chaz decided to push his music further now that he has more time on his hands. His mom came from the Phillipines to the United States, where she met her future husband (who’s African American) in college. They lived in New York City taking in all the wonderful cultural influences the city’s rising underground scene had to offer at the time (late 70s/early 80s). Deciding to slow down and be closer to family, they moved to Columbia, South Carolina where they had their first child…

Chaz Bundick’s methods are constantly changing and evolving. Heavily influenced by his parent’s vinyl and tape collection, he also possesses great admiration for contemporary influences like Animal Collective, Sonic Youth, J Dilla, and Daft Punk. Like most prepubescent teens, he had his punk band and once that died out, the “side project” soon became the main focus.

Toro y Moi started in 2001 as a bedroom project but quickly grew into the live performance realm. The songs are born from a plethora of different genres, from freak-folk to R&B to French House.

MP3: “Psychic Chasms” (The Phenomenal Handclap Band Remix)

Psychic Chasms, the debut full-length from Neon Indian, will be released as a newly mastered deluxe edition on CD and double Vinyl on September 28, 2010 and was made available digitally on August 31 via FADER Label / Static Tongues. The new version of the album, which is augmented by Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed, contains nine bonus tracks consisting of exclusive remixes and cover versions by Toro Y Moi, DNTEL, Bibio, Javelin, YACHT and more.

In June, FADER Label welcomed Neon Indian to their roster and announced plans for the re-release of their critically acclaimed debut Psychic Chasms in a unique partnership with Static Tongues, the label started by Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo. Prior to this announcement, the Brooklyn by-way-of Austin four piece ended a series of dates that included sets at Sasquatch, Pitchfork Fest and Bonnaroo, and a string of performances with Massive Attack.

Psychic Chasms was first released on indie-label Lefse Records last October and has since been embraced by numerous critics including those at SPIN, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal and Pitchfork, among others. In February 2010, Neon Indian made their late night TV debut with a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and most recently, released the single “Sleep Paralysist” on Green Label Sound. The track, produced by Palomo in collaboration with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, is the first original new music from Neon Indian since the debut album last Fall.
