New album, [USA], due in 2015
Anamanaguchi’s video for “Pop It” features sweaty men in anime masks obsessing over a Mystery Magical Girl singer.
The video combines the look of clean fashion advertising with a warped sense of cute culture. A mystery magical girl singer sits alone popping balloons at her leisure, until obsessive superfans invade her pristine world with their own deformed, disfigured balloons. The singer struggles with her cute simple pleasure being transformed into someone else’s strange fetish. In the end, she overcomes them by simply popping them.
“Pop It” is currently featured in a new Target commercial that focuses on the retailer’s new Fall Style campaign.
Anamanaguchi also announces an album titled [USA] due in 2015.
