Force Field PR & Mgmt, a boutique publicity firm based in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA, will celebrate its 20th Anniversary on May 16 at Scribble, with a concert and art show, presented by Sid The Cat.
The concert will feature live performances from Force Field clients past and present, including Julianna Barwick, Papercuts, A Beacon School, as well as special surprise guests. YACHT will DJ in between the bands. Profits from the show will go to NDLON – the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
The event will also feature an art show/poster display with 20 years’ worth of show flyers, promo posters, and other art & ephemera from Force Field and its vast array of clients in the music and film space.
Force Field was formed in 2006 by Daniel Gill, a lifelong music obsessive who wanted to turn the act of recommending new music to people into a job. PR and Mgmt seemed like the best way to do this. Over the past 20 years, Force Field has been instrumental in launching the careers of dozens of artists, from Sufjan Stevens to Lord Huron, from St. Vincent to Beach House.
Over the years, Force Field was instrumental in helping to launch record labels such as Captured Tracks, Woodsist, Carpark, Hardly Art, Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks, Dust-to-Digital, Kevin Morby’s Mare Records, Easy Sound and more. Force Field has had long-term relationships with labels like Slumberland, In The Red, Fat Possum, Anticon, R&S, Temporal Drift, Solid Brass, Grind Select, Polyvinyl and K Records just to name a few, as well as working with bigger labels like 4AD, Domino, Secretly Canadian / Jagjaguwar / Dead Oceans, Stones Throw, Warp and Drag City.
In 2012, with the release of the documentary film Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, Force Field began dipping its toes into the world of music documentary press, and from 2012 – 2026 would end up working with an impressive list of films. This includes last year’s bonafide hit It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley, as well as films about Joan Baez, Frank Zappa, The Pogues, The Band, Elephant 6, Other Music, Little Richard, The Rolling Stones (several titles about the Stones!), John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Swamp Dogg, Cleaners From Venus, Syl Johnson, Muscle Shoals, Danny Fields, Allee Willis and many more.
