Dive into a new journey merging pop, soul, folk, R&B and psychedelia and the highly personalized songcraft of AM & Shawn Lee as a cast of worldwide remixers offer new takes on selected tracks from the duo’s debut album, “Celestial Electric”. Rob Garza from Thievery Corporation serves up a groove-machine uptake on “Promises are Never Far From Lies”; Australia’s Dic Money puts serious disco beats into “Lonely Life” making it an ass-shaking dance-floor thumper; Brooklyn’s Captain Planet (Bastard Jazz) puts his take on “City Boy” offering an ambient escape and the U.K.’s Virgil Howe sets off AM’s vocal on “Dark Into Light” to showcase the lyrics in a new style.
AM explains that the futuristic and cosmic sounding track Promises Are Never Far From Lies was inspired by heavy real world events. “Lyrically it’s a political song. Who couldn’t be pissed about what’s going on with the economy at this point,” AM tells Rolling Stone. “Musically, with the original, Shawn Lee and I took the song from earth into outer space disco style. With the remix, Rob Garza steered the ship deeper into space… now the song is like orbiting the planets!”
ABOUT: AM & Shawn Lee is the name of the new 4 piece band project. Shawn Lee is best known for his Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra project and as the composer of the Bully Video Game soundtrack and Ubiquity Records collaborations with Clutchy Hopkins, Princess Superstar, Money Mark, and Bei Bei and more (he’s also a strict vegan). Shawn’s music has appeared on TV shows, movies, and commercials including Lost, Ugly Betty, and CSI. AM spent last year touring as support for AIR in North American and France, and also on tour with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Caetano Velosoo, and Josh Rouse.
