Stones Throw met Vex a couple years ago when he sent PB Wolf an insane demo tape. He’s released a few EPs: Crash Course vinyl,Same Thing Tomorrow cassette, two free on the web – Eulogy and No Escape – as well as a single with James Pants under the name Krista.
Last weekend Stones Throw had an impromptu album premiere & listening party in the best venue Los Angeles has to offer: A grimy alleyway next to a liquor store. We set up a turntable, a couple speakers, and gave away a box of hand-printed copies of the album. Thanks to Jessica Rew for the pictures, and thanks to everyone who showed up. Next time, we promise to give you more than 4 hours notice. Stream the album and check out pics from the listening party here.
Who is Vex Ruffin:
He’s a Filipino-American solo artist who is from Chino Hills, a suburb that borders 3 colossal Southern Californian counties. His hometown is a bizarre fusion of suburban monotony intertwined with a widely dissimilar hodgepodge of communities. This communal paradox is reflected in his music as he straddles a range of genres but never fully pledges himself to just one musical identity.
