“Blue Dreams” is the latest art pop single off Oliver Marson’s forthcoming debut album Why Did I Choose This?. Mixed by Jorge Elbrecht (Japanese Breakfast, Hatchie), the song offers an escape from the mundanity of modern life. With the cost of living being so high, a lot of us feel jaded and are left wondering “how did we get here?”

Marson tells us “I wrote this one whilst staring at a canister of Blue Dreams on my coffee table after work. The song ended up being a dark fantasy about burning down my office job for the insurance money (a bit like in office space).  At the end I blurt out the words “Why did I choose this?,” which is kind of a desperate call out for some kind of change. I think a lot of people end up feeling like this in their jobs, relationships and life choices, especially at the moment.”

TOUR DATES:

LYRICS:

Blue dreams
Coming out of my head
Now im standing by the cash till
Waiting for them to see
What I did in the board room
Where they gave me my redundancy pay cheque
Burning down the convenience store

I could take you on a cruise to the Seychelles
Or the Bahamas
We won’t have to see these people again

Blue dreams
Sitting on my settee
Yeah I’m lazy and I’m tired and I constantly complain about the lifestyle I’ve been living
It cannot be maintained

I can hear the sounds of sirens
Over offices and tower blocks that I’ll probably never see again

Life is passing you by
Why did I choose this?
Life ?
Life is passing you by
